GEORGE'S Memorial Celebration FAQ
1)Q:When and where is the MEMORIAL CELEBRATION?

A:George's Memorial / Life Celebration will be held at Camp Winamac on September 10. All friends and family are welcome! The formal service will be at 11:00. There will be a cookout at 2:00 in the afternoon. After dark, we will have a campfire. Guests are welcome to  come early (Friday) and stay late (Sunday).
2)Q:Who will do the service?

A:Al Traffie of Hutter Construction has kindly offered to begin the service. Then anyone wishing to say a few words will be welcome to join in.
4)Q:Is camp the same?

A:Some parts of camp look about the same as they ever have, some don't. The girls' side hasn't changed much. The barn is very different. The Red Line, Polish and German Wings, Ring 1, and the Tack Room are gone. The manure pile has been levelled out. Hutter has done some clearing and levelling between the boys' and girls' side, created a new road and a softball field, and knocked down some of the boys' cabins and green cabin. Five winters ago, the Yellow Rec Hall & Cabin 1 Girls' collapsed under heavy snow load. **sniff!** The A-frame dining hall still stands. The gymnasium, Ring 3 and the vaulting area look the same. There are horseshoe pits, a zip-line and obstacle course. The lake is as beautiful as ever.
5)Q:What are the on camp accomodations like?

A:Girls' cabins 2, 3, 4, & 5 are available. Boys' cabins 3, 4, 9, & 10 are available. There are also two new cabins that are quite fancy, with indoor baths. Hutter bought new mattresses for all the cabins. You should bring your own pillows, sleeping bags and/or sheets and blankets.
There are also 10 tentsites on the Boys' side, and 4 RV hookups
6)Q:What are the bath facilities like?

A:There is a new bathhouse on the boys' side with men's and women's shower rooms. The girls' side has bathrooms in the cabins and shower houses on the hills, as it has been since the 80s and 90s.
7)Q: When are meals served?

A: There will be a cookout at 2:00 on Saturday. I am still checking on whether there will be any other meals served at camp. We may be able to pool our resources on this....There is also a good selection of restaurants locally, and I will try to get a link to these ASAP.
8)Q:If I stay off camp, which hotel/motel is the closest?

A:The closest facilities are The Westwinds B & B, The Greenfield Inn, The Inn at Crotched Mountain in Francestown, and the Hancock Inn. None of them is more than 10-15 minutes away. There are also several places in Peterborough, which is no more than 25 minutes away.
9)Q:Q: Is the MEMORIAL an adults-only event?
A: Certainly not! Winamac has always been a place where kids of all ages ARE WELCOME. That hasn't changed - bring your whole family, please!
10)Q:Are there horses at camp? Can we go boating?
A: Unfortunately, there are no stables and no horses at camp. We wish it were otherwise, but there will only be memories of horses at the reunion. Also, there are a few boats at camp. And you can always B.Y.O.B. (Bring your own Boat!)
12)Q:What should we bring?

A:Bring warm clothes, bug dope, musical instruments,  sporting equipment, your Winamac photos, slides, audio and video tapes.
11)Q:How do I get to camp?

A:Do not go to Grants' Tomb. Please refer to the Memorial Links Page for descriptions of local travel by bus, train, and plane and driving directions.
13)Q:How soon should I R.S.V.P.?

A:As soon as possible. We would like to have a good idea of how many people are coming so that we can order food. RSVP to Cindy at cathans@verizon.net or phone 603-876-4848
14)Q:How can I stay informed ?

A:Email is the best and cheapest way for us to stay in touch. Please make sure your contact info is up to date.
email: winamac@tds.net
snail mail:George's Memorial / Life Celebration
  P.O. Box 10 - Bennington, NH 03442
phone/fax:603-588-6239
15)Q:What about parking?

A:We want to minimize vehicle traffic, so those of you who are staying on the girls' side can park at the barn or by your cabin. There is a new road from the old new manure dump to the boys' side. You can take that road to the boys' side if you are staying there. Please plan to walk once you get there.

Didn't find the answer to your question here? Try looking at some of the other pages on the Links Page, or contact us as described above.
3)Q:Does George still own the camp?

A:George sold the camp to Hutter Construction in 1994. They use it as a recreational facility for their employees.
